Abolish 50-a! A teach-in
Tuesday, August 4, 8:00pm – 9:00pm
Flying Squirrel Community Space
285 Clarissa St.
Rochester, NY
Free and open to the public!

New York civil rights law section 50-a provides blanket exclusion from disclosure under the Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) for ANY police department documents that could potentially be used to evaluate an officer.
The teach-in will start at 8pm. Specifically, we’re going to go over the history of 50-a, what it does, and how it prevents police accountability. We’re also going to show attendees one of our projects–the People’s Database of Police Misconduct and Brutality–for Rochester, NY. This is the start of a map showing the patterns and practices of police violence in Rochester.
So come at 7:00pm for the “Fire the Cops” reading group introductory meeting (see that event here: https://www.facebook.com/events/725647880891586/) and stay for the Abolish 50-a teach-in!
