Call Elected Officials: Don’t Take Police Money

Joe Morelle has received 44700 dollars in donations from police and correctional officers' lobbies. Demand he return that money to bail funds and black owned organizations. Call his office, 585-232-4850.

We are echoing the call of the BLM protest organizers that our elected officials who have taken contributions from the police, jail, or prison lobbies immediately donate this money to local bail funds and/or Black owned organizations. They must pledge to never take money from police, jail, and prison lobbies again. Some have already done this. We have begun calling out those who haven’t. We’ve had enough.

The Locust Club police union is a reactionary organization that is obstructing police accountability in our community. Currently they are working to undermine the Police Accountability Board in the courts to strip the PAB of disciplinary power. Neither Bello nor any politician should be taking money from the Locust Club.

Example script:

Hello, my name is [YOUR NAME]. In light of the police violence that has been taking place here in Monroe County and across the country, I am calling to urge [Congressman Morelle/County Executive Bello] to return all contributions he has received from police officers’ organizations over his career and to donate this money to local bail funds and Black-owned organizations. Our other elected officials have already done so, it is very important to me that he do this immediately. Thank you!
