The University of Rochester has slowly pushed an agenda to make their campus safety officers a private police force. Five years ago the University of Rochester authorized campus police to carry guns in the Medical Center. Last year Black student organizations stopped a proposal to arm even more police on campus. Now students are calling for the officers who are currently armed to disarm and for other demands such as instituting meaningful anti-racism policies and stopping the gentrification of the 19th Ward.
